Final Farewell

Day 4 is about the word on every marketer’s mouth. Everyone’s focusing on it, but it’s not a focused word. What does it mean exactly? Why does it matter? And how do we do it right? Attend small group workshops about mobile ads, mobile responsive site and mobile app development. Learn about the rapid rise of mobile browsing (and what that means to us) in our interactive globe installation. And hear from Ruth McCarthy, Founder of Mobili Media, about how to get caught up -- and then get ahead.

all things electron

Covalence is a conference about Electron, the framework that enables developers to use web technologies as the foundation for cross-platform desktop apps.

We'll go beyond the usual "Introducing Electron" talks and take a deeper look at building performant, secure, and beautiful apps that users love. Let's take a look at the future of the web platform on the desktop, the Electron framework itself, and hear from those who've built great software with it.

CALL FOR PAPERS

Our main focus is Electron — but we welcome all topics that discuss using web tech to build desktop experiences. In January 2019, we heard about V8 performance, Web Assembly, performance tricks used in Visual Studio Code, modern CSS grid systems, and the future of Electron. Our audience contains mostly developers of large-scale web apps, but we also do our best to get Node.js and web development newcomers to explore building desktop software.

Above anything else, our audience wants to hear from you about the lessons you’ve learned while building something for the desktop – whether that happened in Electron, in a browser, or with something else entirely. Many of the best engineers have never given a talk. If you have interesting things to talk about and are a first-time speaker, we’d be excited to help you!

about the conference

Dear Electron friend,

JavaScript, Node.js, and Electron are important to me. For the last few years, I've been organizing Electron meetups, have spoken about Electron at dozens of conferences, and written about it. The more I talk to developers building desktop software, the more I am convinced that its approach to cross-platform development is more than just hype.

This conference is a labor of love. Thanks to extremely generous sponsorship by Slack, all proceeds will be donated to The Last Mile (https://thelastmile.org), a non-profit organization that prepares incarcerated individuals for successful reentry through technology training.

I'm excited and thankful for the amazing list of speakers – and looking forward to meeting even more members of the Electron community.

CONTRIBUTOR TRAINING

Learn how to contribute to, extend, and improve Electron itself

In addition to the conference on January 24th, the Electron Maintainers are organizing a "Contributor Training" on January 22nd and 23rd close to the conference venue.

In this two-day workshop, you'll learn how to build, develop, and improve Electron itself in a small group setting. You will work directly with core maintainers of Electron.

This training is targeted for developers who're either already or plan to use Electron and want the ability to build, control, and possibly improve Electron. C++ knowledge is not required, but a basic understanding of Node.js is helpful.
